Obituary

Kinder-A Mass of Christian Burial for Wylace Vincent, Jr., 81, will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, August 25, 2022 at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church. Rev. Keith Pellerin will officiate. Burial will follow at Carter Cemetery under the direction of Ardoin/Allen Parish Funeral Homes.

The family will receive visitors at Ardoin/Allen Parish Funeral Home of Kinder on Wednesday, August 24, 2022 from 4-9 p.m. A vigil service will be held at 6 p.m. followed by the recitation of the Holy Rosary by Bill Marcantel with the Knights of Columbus. Visitation will resume on Thursday morning from 8 a.m. until time of service.

Wylace graduated from Iowa High School in 1959, attended McNeese State University and served in the United States Navy and Naval Reserve. In the military, he served as a Yeoman on the USS Charles F. Adams DDG-2 and on the staff of Commander of Destroyer Squadron Six in the Atlantic fleet during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He received numerous honors and metals for his service. He was a member of Alvin L. Nevil Post 244 American Legion, Gill-Lee Memorial VFW Post 9933 and Woodmen of the World.

He was a very active member in his community of Kinder. Wylace served as a city councilman, president of the Kinder Jaycees, secretary/treasurer of the Kinder Lions Club and Kinder Athletic Association and wore many hats in the Knights of Columbus.

He was first employed in Kinder at Calcasieu Marine National Bank and then worked for and retired from Tennessee Gas Pipeline Company (El Paso Energy) after 36 ½ years of service. Not only did he play a role in serving his community, he took great pride in helping form and serving the youth in Kinder by coaching the Kinder Elementary School football team, Kinder girls little dribblers basketball team and being "band dad".

Wylace was a very devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather with a strong belief in God and his church. As a member of St. Philip Neri Catholic Church in Kinder, he served as a lay minister of communion, lector, usher and a member of the church pastoral council. He also was a member of the East Deanery Serra Club, a companion of honor for devoted service to the Diocese of Lake Charles, a Sir Knight Commander of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem and a member of the Knights of Columbus since 1959; where he served in many roles on the local and state level receiving a multitude of awards throughout his years of service.

During his retirement years, he enjoyed attending activities his grandchildren participated in, doing church and organization work and mostly living his lifelong dream of owner and operator of the Rocking V. Ranch. He married the former Margaret Ann Richard of Kinder on November 3, 1961.

Wylace is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Margaret Vincent; their three daughters, Sharie Vincent Fruge and husband, Doug, of Kinder, Yolande Vincent Parker and husband, Larry, of Topsy and Tressie Vincent and husband, Jared LaFleur, of Kinder; grandchildren, Kristal Karam Ortego, Kayla Karam Ortego Shipley (Tanner), Ashlyn LeGros Fontenot (Nick), Blake Ortego, Karaline Ortego, Barry Parker, Louis Parker and Sarah Parker; 11 great grandchildren; brother, Walter Vincent and wife, Diane, of San Antonio, TX; and mother, Libby O'Blanc Vincent Marceaux.

He was preceded in death by his father, Wylace Vincent, Sr.; step-father, Lloyd Marceaux; sister, Ruby V. Richey; granddaughter, Kaileigh Parker; grandson, Jayson Parker; son-in-law, David M. Karam; and his father and mother-in-law, Charlie and Florence Richard.
