Obituary

Kinder-Funeral service for Woodrow Duhon, Sr. will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 4, 2017, at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church of Fenton. Rev. Roland Vaughn will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic cemetery in Fenton under the direction of Ardoin/Allen Parish Funeral Home of Kinder.
The family will receive visitors at Ardoin/Allen Parish Funeral Home of Kinder from 8 a.m. until time of service with the Holy Rosary at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, October 4, 2017.
Woodrow was a loving father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was a devoted husband to his wife, Sina, for 50 years until her passing in 1997. Woodrow loved baseball; his favorite team was the Boston Red Sox. He served our country in World War II and the Korean War as a member of the United States Marine Corps. In 2012 along with the Montford Point Marines he was one of the recipients of the Congressional Gold Medal and honored by President Barack Obama. Woodrow also received the Purple Heart with star twice. He received the bronze star and good conduct medal, as well as many other heroic awards. Woodrow enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was a devout member of the St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, a man of faith and prayer, and a lifelong resident of Fenton. He always had a smile on his face and he always had a very keen memory. Woodrow enjoyed cooking sauce piquante and gumbo as well as dancing to Zydeco music. The holidays were his favorite time of the year. Woodrow will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Those left to cherish Woodrow's memory include his four sons, Woodrow Duhon, Jr. and wife, Paulene, of Sacramento, CA, Harold Duhon and wife, Jocelyn, of Lake Charles, Jerry Duhon and wife, Jessica, of Fenton, Walter Duhon and wife, Connie, of Fenton; one daughter, Carla Goodly and husband, Walter, of Lake Charles; sixteen grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.
Woodrow is preceded in death by his parents, Nicholas and Alice Duhon; spouse, Sina Carter Duhon; one son, Robert Lee Duhon; three brothers, Wakefield Duhon, Whitney Duhon, and Nick Duhon Jr.; eight sisters, Cecilia Jones, Minerva Boling, Viola Simpson, Eva Fontenot, Maude Lemonia, Laverta Duhon, Della Mae Jones, and Alma Lewis.
