Winfred was a loving husband to his wife, Emma, for fifty-five years, as well as a loving father, brother, grandfather and great grandfather. In Winfred's younger days he was a basketball player and was affectionately known as "Mr. Hooks" by many because of his hook shots. Winfred and Emma met in 1966 while Emma was working at a café. They got married on May 7, 1967 and had two children. He enjoyed sitting on his porch, listening to jazz music and blues and most of all, spending time with his family. Winfred will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Those left to cherish Winfred's memory include his wife, Emma Gardner; two daughters, Dionne Gardner and Najah Jahkur; three brothers, James, Laverne and Thomas Gardner; four grandchildren, Janae Atkins, Jeremiah Gardner, Nehemiah Gardner and Azizah Jahkur; and one great grandchild, Naliyah Gardner.
Winfred is preceded in death by his parents, Isaac and Lula Mae Gardner; two brothers, Isaac Jr., and Charles Edwards Gardner; and sister, Dorris Faith Proby.
