Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family of Wilma Leah Garbarino Jacobs
announces her passing on Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at AG Rhodes
Nursing Center, Atlanta, GA at the age of 88.
A Celebration of Life will be celebrated on Saturday, January 26,
2013, at 2pm, at Ardoin's Funeral Home Chapel in Elton. Rev. Robert Jones
will officiate. Burial will follow in the Liberty Cemetery, a family resting place with many of her ancestors and relatives buried there.
The family will receive visitors at Ardoin Funeral Home of Elton
beginning Saturday, January 26, 2013 from 10am till time of service.
Wilma graduated from Elton High School in 1941, and then graduated
from LSU. A few years later she completed medical training at Charity
Hospital in New Orleans. When only a young single woman she boarded the
train and headed to Atlanta. She worked for various doctors and then had a
long career in the Emory Hospital system as a Medical Technologist. She worked
at Yerkes Primate Research Center, Scottish Rite and Wesley Woods Hospitals.
She loved to sew, was a loyal church member, loved her family, and could tell
great stories.
Wilma was a devoted mother, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother
who will always be remembered by those who knew and loved her especially
her sons, Bert J. Jacobs and wife, Elizabeth, Gary T. Jacobs and wife Therese;
daughter Nancy Jacobs Lovingood and husband, Thomas all from Atlanta;
and Laura Locke Richard and husband, Donald of Bremerton, Washington,
and former husband C. Jeff Jacobs of Palatka, Fla; eight grandchildren (Leah,
Lynn, Donny, Grace, Isabel, William, Joseph, and Annie) and six great-
Grandchildren; a sister, Ruth G. Horton, Tampa, Fla and brother, Bruce
Garbarino of Elton survive her.
She now rests in Heaven with her beloved; parents, BF and Lezina
Bertrand Garbarino; three sisters, Audrey Dougherty, Melba Hutchinson,
and Loyce Steiner, and a brother, Med Garbarino.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Second Ponce de Leon
Baptist Church, or Budd Terrace Nursing Home at Wesley Woods both in Atlanta, or the Alzheimer Foundation.
