Wilma was the eldest of six siblings born to Dewey Richard and Oza Meaux. Being the eldest led her to become a warm-hearted caregiver and a loving helper to all that she may have met throughout her life of ninety-five years. Wilma was married to her loving husband, Claude, for 71 years until his passing. She and Claude met at a dance in Riceville, Louisiana at the age of fifteen and continued to dance throughout their married life at parties, weddings, Mardi Gras balls, and well into their nineties at the Kinder Retirement Center. Claude was her true soulmate. They were often seen holding hands while walking on the casino gaming floor, Bingo Hall, and when attending church services as well as many other events. Wilma always wanted several children, but God's plan was for her to have only one daughter, Rachel. However, that did not prevent her from having a house full of small children as well as elderly relatives staying over for extended visits and occasionally living at her home. Keeping herself busy, aside from regular homemaking responsibilities, Wilma made and repaired Catholic rosaries, taught second grade Catechism classes, attended weekly "Come Lord Jesus" meetings, baked and decorated cakes, led Kinder's first Daisy Girl Scout troop which consisted of kindergarten-age girls, and later worked as a caregiver for her granddaughter, Katy. Wilma was a talented cook and since her husband, Claude, was a true outdoorsman and brought all sorts of wildlife home for cooking, if he provided it, Wilma dressed it and cooked it for dinner. She stayed active over the years as a member of the St. Philip Neri Catholic Church Choir while still housed in the "Old" Catholic Church. Wilma loved to play card games and belonged to a Bridge club, domino group, bowling team, and regularly attended a ladies Home Interior group. One of her favorite activities was attending Mardi Gras outings, both in New Orleans and locally. Wilma often said that she had lived a wonderful life and was ready to reach her heavenly home whenever God willed it. Wilma will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Those left to cherish Wilma's memory include her loving and devoted daughter, Rachel Langley, of Kinder; two granddaughters, Katy Poe and husband, Jeremy of Kinder and Amber Gill and husband, Dusty of Idaho; four great grandchildren, Katelyn and Jillian Poe and Ethan and Emma Gill; and two great-great grandchildren.
Wilma is preceded in death by her parents, Dewey Richard and Oza Meaux; her husband, Claude Broussard; four brothers, Norris, Clifford, Ray and Ernest; one sister, Alvenia; one granddaughter, Emily Langley; and her son-in-law, Tim Langley.
