Dr. William "Bill" Charles McClure D.C., J.D.
"Do what is easy and your life will be hard. Do what is hard and your life will become easy."
Dr. William "Bill" Charles McClure, 56, passed away on May 13, 2020 at his cabin in Reeves, Louisiana. A private family memorial will be held at a later date.
Bill was born on August 21, 1963 to Judith Ann Maxwell and Charles S Cole in Fayetteville, North Carolina. His family moved to Jacksonville, Illinois where they welcomed his brother Kevin. After his parents' divorce, Bill, Kevin, and Judith moved to Springfield where she married George McClure and welcome his sister Pamela. Charles also remarried to Donna Countryman and welcomed his brother Todd.
After graduating from Chatham Highschool in 1981, Bill took on a few different jobs (working at a filling station, pizza joint, and roof/siding business) before moving to Humble, Texas working as a bartender. While working for International Court Reporters as a videographer in 1987, he met Stephanie Jean Driver whom he later married and moved to Friendswood. He began attending college and graduated from San Jacinto Community College with a Double Associates Degree in Biology and Chemistry, Texas Chiropractic College with a Doctor of Chiropractic in 1995, and Texas Southern University Thurgood Marshall School of Law with a Doctor of Jurisprudence in 2000. While attending law school, Bill and Stephanie welcomed their daughter Colette Benet McClure on March 24, 1999. After their divorce, Bill moved to Lake Charles, Louisiana to further his chiropractic career and expert witness practice. Even though he lived in another state, he remained active in his daughter's life travelling every other weekend to visit, cheer her on at sporting events and band concerts, and proudly telling everyone he met about his daughter.
Bill will be remembered for his constant pursuit of knowledge by attending Harvard University Conferences in Boston annually and teaching classes at different colleges, eating horseshoes when visiting Illinois, hanging out with friends at the Londoner and having a beer, love of music and attending concerts at the casino, creating relationships with patients, and his passion for writing about health and wellness to spread his knowledge and help others. Most importantly, he always had a smile on his face and never met a stranger. He was a loving father, son, brother, and friend.
He is preceded in death by his father Charles S. Cole; maternal grandfather Hubert Dean Maxwell and grandmother Ruby Cooper; paternal grandfather William and grandmother Lenor Cole; and stepfather Dr. John McGlothlin.
Bill is survived by his daughter Colette B. McClure of College Station, Texas; mother Judith J. Black (Maxwell) of Springfield, Illinois; stepmother Donna J. Cole of Jacksonville, Ilinois; brother Kevin D. McClure and wife Brenda of Redding, California; sister Pamela A. Coffel and husband Scott of Apex, North Carolina; brother Todd Cole and wife Carol of Jacksonville, Illinois; aunt Harriett Markellie of Jacksonville, Illinois; aunt Mary Griffin of Hannibal, Missouri; aunt Joyce Walter of Auburn, Illinois; uncle Larry Maxwell and wife Barbara of Concord, Illinois; uncle Quentin Maxwell of Peorie, Illinois; for nieces; a nephew; cousins; and many friends.
Life will be hard not being able to hear you say "I love you", see your smiling face, and feeling the warmth of your big bear hugs; but I know you will always be close by watching over me as I continue to grow and be the woman you want me to be. Thank you for all the lessons you have taught me over the years and constantly travelling from Louisiana just to see me even for a couple hours. I am so grateful that I am able to hold so many memories close to my heart: you bouncing me on your knee while you sang along to Scooby-Doo making me dance, growing pineapple plants and creating my Hawaiian pizza addiction, making the terrible choice to trust my 8 year old self to try and read the map while we drove to Illinois and quickly realizing your mistake so you bought a GPS to use from then on, jamming out to rock music together during the many hours we drove back and forth from Texas to Louisiana, taking me deep see fishing and us discovering that I get sea sick easily apparently, teaching me how to shoot your gun, secretly rooting for TAMU since that's my school while you were in the middle of LSU territory, being the first hand I felt for after all my surgeries, and spoiling the heck out of my dogs who you called your "granddogs". I know the woman I am today is thanks to you and how you helped raise me. I am so proud to be able to be your daughter and I will ensure my future kids will know all about their Grandpa Bill. Until we meet again, I will be sure to continue my Hawaiian pizza addiction, order a French Dip sandwich anytime it is on the menu, watch NASCAR races and root for the M&M car no matter who is driving, and roll down the windows to my car and blare "School's Out" by Alice Cooper every time it comes on.
Memorial Contributions may be made to his daughter via Venmo (@Colette-McClure) to pay for her schooling and finishing paying off his expenses.
