William "Bill" Emmons was born on December 5, 1950 in Rapid City, SD, and passed away in the presence of his family at the age of 70, on December 10, 2020. Upon moving to Sulphur, LA at the age of three, "Bill" became a life-long resident that was involved in the betterment of his community, by serving in business and as a public servant. He was also a United States Navy Veteran. He was the owner of Smokey's Generator shop in Sulphur, LA, and served diligently in numerous capacities for the City of Sulphur government, including: Chairman of Sulphur City Council- 1997-1998, 2002-2003, 2005-2006, IMCAL Board of Directors- 2002-2005, and Southland Field Airport Board of Directors-1997-1999. His highest level of service was his willingness to help others, with integrity and a good heart. For 47 years, people came from all around to have "Smokey's" Generator repair their vehicle so that they could receive quality service and repair. He made sure of that. He always made it a point to be a friend to his customers, treating them with respect and decency. He depended on his longtime friend and coworker- Rick Weise, to accomplish this. He was a friend to many. He was well known for his demeanor and willingness to help those in need, always doing more than was expected. He loved his family, something that was never in question. His work ethic and willingness to "be there no matter what" showed this tremendously. His wisdom, "right-thinking" and integrity, are gifts that he instilled into their lives. "Bill" was an avid sportsman. He loved the outdoors, but fishing was his greatest joy. Upon his passing at 4:45pm, freshwater fish from Toledo Bend to the mouth of the Sabine River- breathed a sigh of relief, with every fish in Heaven becoming quite nervous, that he and his Dad were about to be back in the boat together! Bill greatly enjoyed "good food," and as he referred to her, "Mrs. Donna's" cooking. He lived a life that proved what America is about. He started from a very humble beginning with the intent of making a good life for he and his family- and he did. He will certainly be missed by his family, but with understanding that in time- We WILL see him again…
Bill leaves behind a host of loving family members that will cherish his memory including his wife of 48 years, Donna Young Emmons; his daughter, Brandi and husband, Jacob Manard; his son, William "Brent" Emmons and wife, Karen Richard Emmons; two granddaughters, Acadia and Emma Emmons; niece, Kim Cole Herman and great-nephew, Cade Herman; niece- Kellie, and her husband, Darin Cross and great-niece, McKenna Cross and great nephew, Brennan Cross; and, nephew- Kip Coltrin.
He was preceded in death by his father, Earnest "Smokey" Emmons; his mother, Nadine Emmons; two sisters, Kay Emmons Purvis and Kathy Emmons Cavaretta; and his nephew, Gary "Butch" Cole.
Bill's family would like to extend sincere thanks for all who have been there for them during this difficult time. Words of comfort may be sent to the family at www.ardoinfuneralhome.com or on Facebook-Ardoin/Allen Parish Funeral Homes.
