Oberlin-A Mass of Christian Burial for Wilbert (Buck) Berry, Sr., 92, will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, December 16, 2022 at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church. Father Tim Goodly will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Soileau, Louisiana under the direction of Ardoin/Allen Parish Funeral Homes.
The family will receive visitors at Ardoin/Allen Parish Funeral Home on Friday, December 16, 2022 from 9 a.m. until time of service with the Holy Rosary being prayed at 10 a.m.
Wilbert was a devoted husband to his wife, Loris, of seventy-two years, as well as a loving father, brother, uncle, grandfather, great grandfather, role model and friend to many. He proudly served our country in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was a lifelong resident of Oberlin and worked at the United States Post Office for approximately 30 years until his well-deserved retirement. He was the proud owner of Buck's Bar in Oberlin, a former Oberlin City Councilman and a loyal New Orleans Saints fan. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and taking care of his farm animals. He was an expert on the people and history of Oberlin and loved sharing this history with others. Mr. Berry will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Loris Fontenot Berry of Oberlin; four daughters, Betty Delafosse (Robert), of Lafayette, Lorena Pete (Larry), of Houma, Mary Elois of Houston, TX, and Leola Metoyer (Ray), of Beaumont, TX; two sons, Mack W. Berry (Keisha) and Wilbert (Doc) Berry, Jr., both of Oberlin; two brothers, John Guillory & Norman Coleman; four sisters, Ella Dee Slate, Mildred Garner, Patsy Berry and Margaret "San" Odums, all of Oberlin; twenty-six grandchildren; and twenty-nine great grandchildren.
Mr. Berry is preceded in death by his parents, William and Lena Verrett Berry; son, Joseph J.G. Berry; brother, Charlie (Bedo) Berry; and sisters, Jessie Lee Berry, Emma (Tookie) Blackston, Lisa Cole, Freda Berry and Patricia Berry.
