Kinder-Visitation services honoring Wanda Sylestine, 88, will be held at Ardoin/Allen Parish Funeral Home of Kinder on Tuesday, March 19, 2024, from 5-9 o'clock p.m. with a singing service at 6 o'clock p.m., Wanda's family would like to welcome any group who would like to participate in honoring her life.
Wanda's visitation will resume at Kilgroe Funeral Home in Leeds, AL on Friday morning, March 22, 2024, from 11 o'clock a.m. until time of service. Celebration of Life services honoring Wanda will be held at 1 o'clock p.m. on Friday afternoon, March 22, 2024, at Kilgroe Funeral Home in Leeds, AL. Wanda will be laid to rest at Moody Cemetery in Moody, AL, immediately following her services. All of Wanda's arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Ardoin/Allen Parish Funeral Home of Kinder and Kilgroe Funeral Home of Leeds, AL.
Wanda was a loving wife, mother, grandmother (Ahpo), great grandmother (Ahpo Chuba), sister, aunt (Koosi), and friend. Wanda enjoyed making long leaf pine needle baskets, traveling, but especially loved spending time with her family whom she absolutely adored. She loved and cherished every memory she made with her family especially her grandchildren. Wanda was full of wisdom and was a devoted prayer warrior. She was a very selfless person and was very giving. She loved to help anyone in need. Wanda was the eldest member of the Coushatta Tribe of Louisiana, and the Clan Mother of the Bobcat Clan (Kawaknassi), she was very proud of her Native American heritage. She was very educated in her culture and was a wealth of knowledge in her ancestry. Wanda was a very kind and caring person and will be forever missed and unconditionally loved by all who knew her.
Those left to cherish Wanda's memory include two daughters, Reta Rich of Springville, AL, and Rhonda Burridge and husband Scott of Chelsea, AL, two sons, Jason Sylestine and wife Michelle of Chelsea, AL, and Howard Sylestine and wife Elana of Wilsonville, AL; one sister, Ana Lou Obe, of Livingston, TX, and one brother, Rod Prejean; 23 grandchildren, 49 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
Wanda is preceded in death by her parents, Baker Williams, and Rhoda Mae Sylestine; her husband Lloyd Sylestine; two sons, Curtis, and Don Sylestine; one daughter-in-law, PatsyAustin Sylestine, one son-in-law, Roger Dale Rich; eight brothers, Johnson and, Horace Williams, Herman Battise, Charles Sylestine, and Kent Sylestine Jr., Bobby Landry, and Joseph, and Michael Mier; one grandson, Matthew Wilson, and one great granddaughter, Alyssa Nicole Rich.
