Wanda Johnson, Follower of God, lived her life fulfilling that following. When she was twelve years old, Paul Leeds, her pastor and mentor, led her to an understanding of faith in Christ. At that point, she never looked back. She graduated from college with a degree in Education which would help her greatly throughout her life. She taught in public and private schools, always looking for ways to help children grasp the subject matter and to turn their hearts toward God. She was married to Don Johnson who went on to become a pastor. Together they worked in Illinois, South Carolina, Texas and Louisiana, feeding the hunger in hearts and minds. She was also known as the "Story Lady" and told stories over the radio each week for several years. Even adults loved to hear her. They "came alive" as she spoke. Wanda led several ladies' Bible studies, learning more as she taught and studied. The ladies became close friends, being there for each other through good and hard times. They knew they could talk with Wanda about anything. She took great pleasure in her grandchildren and great grandchildren, always wanting to hear about their latest adventures or see pictures of them. Wanda was a devoted wife of 44 years before the passing of her husband, Don. She was also a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She will be greatly missed by all whose lives she has touched over the years.
Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Mary Ruth Word and husband, Bob, of Garland, TX, two sisters, Mary Louise Livingston and husband, Neil, of Dallas, TX, and Ruth Unkel of Kinder, three grandchildren, Jeremy Word, Rebekah Villand and husband, Norbi, and Hannah Word, two great grandchildren, Phoenix Word and Kennedy Villand, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Wanda is preceded in death by her husband, Donald Karl Johnson, her parents, Charlie and Freda Kuntz, and one brother, Carroll Kuntz.
In lieu of flowers, gifts can be made to Camp Pearl in her memory.
