Elton-Funeral service for Walter "Sonny" Tietje, 88, will be held Saturday,
February 12, 2011 at 10am in Ardoin Funeral Home of Elton. Rev. John Couch
will officiate. Burial will follow in China Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Friday, February 11, 2011 from 3-9pm at
Ardoin Funeral Home of Elton. Visitation will continue Saturday,
February 12, 2011 at 8am in Ardoin Funeral Home of Elton until time of
service.
Walter was a lifelong resident of Elton; after high school, he
enlisted in the United States Army Airforce where he served in World
War II. He served overseas in Italy and after his military service he
returned home. He loved and enjoyed serving his country. After
returning home, he managed the family farm producing rice and
raising crawfish. He was also a member of the Elton United Methodist
Church where he served as a board member. He also was a member
of the Farm Bureau Association. He was known everywhere he went
for his whistling. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.
He is survived by his wife, Georgia Landry Tietje of Elton;
two sons, Barry N. Tietje and wife Debra Ann of Dallas, Tx.; and
David M. Tietje of Dallas, Tx.; and one brother Robert Tietje of
Elton; and two sisters, Yvonne "Doodle" Allen of Elton, and Betty
Jane Tucker of Jerseyville, Il.; and five grandchildren and four
great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Elgee Sue Hart; his parents,
Lessie and Walter Tietje; and daughters; Barbara Sue Buford and
Cynthia Ann Lohnan.
