Oakdale-Funeral service for Violet E. Monk, 87, will be held at Oakdale Bible Baptist Church on Sunday, June 23, 2024, at 10 o'clock a.m.  Rev. Elden Mayo and Rev. Paul Nugent will officiate.  Burial will follow at Cryer Cemetery under the direction of Ardoin/Allen Parish Funeral Homes.

The family will receive visitors at Oakdale Bible Baptist Church on Saturday, June 22, 2024, beginning at 4 o'clock p.m.  Visitation will resume on Sunday morning from 8 a.m. until time of service.

Violet was a loving mother and mother-in-law who dearly loved her family.    She was a devoted wife to her husband, Fred Monk, until his passing on August 12, 2012.   Her children and her grandchildren were her life; she especially loved spending time with her grandchildren.  Violet also loved attending church and she was always there when she was able.  She enjoyed working in her yard.  She loved growing roses and making a garden.  Whenever she could, she enjoyed going to the camp to fish.  She will be missed by all who knew and loved her, especially her children and grandchildren.

Those left to cherish Violet's memory include her sons, Ricky Monk and wife, Tammy, and Brent Monk and wife, Thalesia; her daughter, Gwen Richmond and husband, Craig; her sister, Marvina Cottongin; 8 grandchildren-Joshua Monk, Jeremiah Monk, Katie Christ, Todd Lowe, Kristy Lowe, Jade Wolfe, Jamie Kirkman, and Travis Monk; 23 great grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren.

Violet is preceded in death by her parents, Marvin and Zettie Mae Myers; her husband, Fred Monk; one brother, Jacob Myers; and one sister, Mary Shirley Fontenot.
