The memory of Viola Bushnell Savant will not be dimmed by her departure from this earth, Sunday, her beloved Lord's Day, January 29, 2012, at the age of 93. Her long and vibrant life began April 26, 1918, in Kinder, as the eldest of 13 children to Elizabeth and Roman Bushnell. She grew up and married Louis Savant on November 11, 1933, and shared 60 happy years of marriage which yielded 7 children, 6 sons and 1 daughter: Floyd Savant (Mary) of Pasadena, TX; Carlton Savant (Helen) of Kinder; Gene Savant, deceased (Catherine) of Kinder; Wade Savant (Becky) of Kinder; Tyrone Savant (June) of Kinder; Charles Savant (Patty) of Kinder; and Gail Savant Wofford (George Rhett) of Kinder. She will always be "Maw Maw" to 18 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren. She will be dearly loved and missed by all of the grandchildren, every one of whom she called, "Baby."
Viola is predeceased by her beloved husband, Louis Savant; son, Gene Savant; daughter-in-law, Willidean Cooper Savant; grandson, Steven Carlton Savant; sisters Gertanel Walston, Vergie Bushnell, Ruth Langley; and brother, Titus Bushnell. She is survived by brothers C.A. Bushnell of Reeves, and R.V. Bushnell, Burgess (Buggy) Bushnell, Chester Bushnell, Reverend Carroll Bushnell, all of Kinder; and sisters Lori Savant, Dean Miller, Ollie Shuff, all of Kinder.
Viola was known for being a dedicated homemaker and supported Louis in his sawmill business, but she was also a creative and industrious business woman. She founded Kinder Fabric Shop, Village Café, Savant's Department Store, and Viola's Dolls. She was an extremely gifted and creative person whose skills included intricate sewing, painting and crafting heirloom porcelain and ceramic dolls and plates, growing flowers, and various other hobbies. She passed many of these skills on to numerous people throughout her lifetime.
At a very young age, Viola fell in love with Jesus Christ. She lived to share that love with everyone and demonstrated it by providing for pastors and their wives, singing in church, being part of a radio singing trio, teaching Sunday School, cooking, and cleaning the church. Anyone knowing Viola would agree that she was a very Godly woman who loved Jesus with all of her heart. Her love for God, family, and her church, Indian Village United Pentecostal Church , remained strong throughout her life.
Visitation and the funeral will be held at the Indian Village United Pentecostal Church located at 4480 Highway 383, Kinder, Louisiana , with visitation hours being observed from 4 – 9 p.m. Tuesday, January 31, 2012. Visitation will resume Wednesday morning, February 1, 2012, at 7 and continue until the HomeGoing Celebration Service at 2 Wednesday afternoon. The service will be officiated by her Pastor, Reverend Terry Bushnell; her brother, Reverend Carroll Bushnell; and former pastor, Reverend Tim Mahoney. Burial will immediately follow at the Indian Village Cemetery .
