Obituary

Kinder-Funeral service for Vernon Lyles Nixon, 97, will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, September 13, 2016, at The Grand Church of Kinder. Pastor Paul Cavenah and Pastor Greg Cavenah will officiate. Burial will follow in Lyles Cemetery of Reeves. All arrangements have been entrusted to Ardoin Funeral Home of Kinder.
The family will receive visitors at The Grand Church from 10 a.m. until time of service.
Vernon was a friend to all who knew him. He was a father and grandfather to many. He served our country in the United States Army during World War II as a medic. He was wounded twice on the frontline and received two Purple Heart medals. Vernon enjoyed gardening, hunting and fishing and taught the younger generations in his family to hunt and fish. He was a member of Reeves Bible Church and was a retired boiler maker. Vernon will be greatly missed by all his friends and relatives.
Vernon is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Theo Lyles Nixon; three brothers, Aubrey Nixon, Allen W. Nixon and T.T. Nixon, Jr; and three sisters, Adalee Vaughn, Ruby Reeves, and Mary Cole.
