Vernice was a loving mother, grandmother, daughter, and sister. She loved visiting with friends and family. Vernice was a friend to all that knew her and never met a stranger. Some of Vernice's favorite things to do were cooking and running the roads. She was known as "Nascar Vern" because she would never miss a chance to have the wheels rolling. Vernice was a lifelong resident of Oberlin and member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in Oberlin where she was dedicated to her faith and never missed a Rosary or Adoration. She had a beautiful fulfilling career from working at Coushatta Casino Resort for 17 years and Allen Parish Sheriff's Office for 22 years. Vernice made lasting relationships during her career and life.

Those left to cherish Vernice's memory include one son, Steve Taylor; one daughter, Kimberly Fontenot; one sister, Loretta Ashford; two grandchildren, Sadye Taylor and Dylan Taylor; great-grand dog, Peety "The King"; and a host of friends and family.

Vernice is preceded in death by her parents, Adam and Celina Rider; two brothers, Hubert Ryder and Herbert Ryder; and two sisters, Rosa Belle Carrier and Rosella Duplechain.
