Kinder-A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Verna L. Fontenot, 87, at 1 p.m. on Thursday, July 30, 2015 at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church. Rev. Keith Pellerin will officiate. Burial will follow in Liberty Cemetery under the direction of Ardoin Funeral Home.
The family will receive visitors at Ardoin Funeral Home of Kinder on Wednesday, July 29, 2015 from 3-9 p.m. A vigil service will be held at 6 p.m. followed by the holy rosary. Visitation will resume on Thursday morning from 8 a.m. until time of service.
Verna was a lifelong resident of Kinder and member of St. Philip Neri Catholic Church. She was a retired Allen Parish school bus driver and beautician. She was a devoted wife of 55 years to her husband, Elwin "Red" Fontenot, until his passing in July of 2002. Verna was "the most unselfish person in the world" and she set wonderful examples for her children. She loved quilting and sewing, traveling, and spending time with her family. Verna was a woman of very strong faith. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Those left to cherish Verna's memory include her son, Clyde James Fontenot and wife, Cheryl, of Welsh; two daughters, Myra Butler and friend, Jack, of Sulphur, and Sharon Sheperd and husband, John, of Deweyville, TX; one sister, Thelma LaPoint, of Kinder; and 9 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and a great-great granddaughter on the way.
Verna is preceded in death by her husband-Elwin "Red" Fontenot; her parents-Emile and Kate LaFleur; one son-Joseph Bruce Fontenot; one sister- Gladys Savant; and three brothers-Clyde, Tillman, and L.J. LaFleur.
