Brother Troy Tyrone Fontenot was born on September 21, 1973 to Durffey Fontenot, Sr. and Geraldine McCrea-Fontenot. He was the 3rd born to a group of four siblings. Troy was baptized at an early age in Elton at Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church and was a lifelong member of the Baptist faith. After leaving Elton in adulthood, Troy became a member of several different congregations based on where he resided. Recently, Troy returned home to Elton and rejoined his childhood church home-----Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church. Troy immediately began to serve at Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church as the overseer of the church's cemetery-Eternal Rest. During the pandemic, Troy answered the call to organizing and carrying out the music ministry for virtual church services. Even after church services returned to the sanctuary, Troy continued to be committed to serving as Mt. Pilgrim's "MAESTRO". Troy graduated from Elton High School in 1991. After graduation, Troy enlisted in the U.S. Navy, committed to serving his country. After returning home from the U. S. Navy, Troy held various jobs ranging from offshore companies, sales, delivery/distribution, and law enforcement. It is obvious that Troy was no stranger to hard work. He worked tirelessly until his disability retirement in 2019. He definitely had a heart and a love for servitude. He never met a stranger, had a love for life, and was a true giver. He had a passion for cooking-and boy could he make a mean gumbo as well as countless other dishes! The entire community of Elton can attest to his willingness to cook and feed any and everybody. Troy was loving, kind, and his smile would light up any room. He was literally the life of the party. He thoroughly enjoyed entertaining his family and friends and his door was always open. He had a sense of humor that would leave you laughing for days. Anyone who knew Troy knew that he was a die-hard fan of the New Orleans Saints and would defend his team win or lose. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Troy leaves to mourn his cherished memories, his wife, Takedra Fontenot, two daughters, Lakeisha Fontenot of Houston, TX and Essence Fontenot of Spring, TX; three step-children, Kervondrick Scott, Derrick Finley, and Jamiya Scott, all of Orange, TX.; two sisters, Bridget (Robert) Washington and Danielle (Leon) Simien, both of Elton, LA; mother-in law, Orine Jones of Orange, TX, four sister-in-law's, Natasha (Rodney) Smith, and Raynell Jones of Orange, TX, Valerie Jones and Georgia Green both of Beaumont, TX; one brother-in-law, Curtis (Laquita) Jones of Orange, TX; four grandchildren, Nehemiah Fontenot, Jamarr Ferguson, Julian Ferguson and Kendall Ortego; one niece, Halle Simien and one nephew, Kai Drayton. There are a host of extended relatives, in-laws, and friends that will forever cherish his memory.

Troy was preceded in death by his parents, Durffey and Geraldine Fontenot, and his elder brother, Durffey Fontenot Jr.
