Mittie-Tammy Trahan Burk, age 50, passed away at her home on Wednesday, December 28, 2011 surrounded by her family after a courageous 18-year battle with Lou Gehrig's Disease. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 31, 2011 at 1pm at Cherry Grove Baptist Church of Mittie. Rev. Ron Butler will officiate. Burial will follow in Cherry Grove Cemetery under the direction of Ardoin Funeral Home of Kinder.
Visitation will begin on Friday, December 30, 2011 from 3-10pm in Cherry Grove Baptist Church and will continue on Saturday from 8am until time of service.
Tammy was a 1979 graduate of Fairview High School. After graduating from high school, she continued her education at McNeese State University where she earned a marketing/accounting degree. She then began her career with Mobay Chemical Company in Baytown, Texas at which she worked for several years before returning to Mittie when she became ill. She enjoyed reading as a pastime. But, her greatest joy was her beautiful daughter and infant granddaughter. She always loved spending time with her family, especially being surrounded by the "little kids" in the family. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Tammy is survived by her loving mother, Willadell Laughlin Trahan of Mittie; one daughter, Mari Burk Burgess and husband, Timothy of Dry Creek; two brothers, Virgil Trahan and wife, Gwen of Sulphur and Wyatt Trahan and wife, Patty of Moss Bluff; one sister, Cynthia Dowies and husband, Danny of Mittie; one grandchild, Lorraina Burgess of Dry Creek; nine nieces and nephews, Dana Caldarera, Sallye Dugas, Joni Trahan, Brandy Hebert, Katherine Marler, Shannon Dowies, Jay Trahan, John Trahan, and Eric Marler; as well as several great nieces and nephews.
Tammy is preceded in death by her dad, Virgil J. Trahan.
