Oberlin- Funeral mass for Mr. Simon Sonnier, 79, will be held Wednesday, March 28, 2007 at 11a.m. in St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church. Father Keith Pellerin & Father Michael Barras will officiate. Burial will be in Oberlin Cemetery under the direction of Ardoin Funeral Home of Kinder.
Visitation will be in New Beginnings Assembly of God Church Tuesday from 10am-10pm with a scripture service at 6:30pm and a rosary at 7p.m. Visitation will continue Wednesday at 8am until time of service.
Mr. Sonnier was a native and resident of Oberlin, a member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic church, lifetime member of Knights of Columbus, Boy Scout Master, former member of the Fair Association, reorganized the Oberlin Mardi Gras in 1966, and teenage Mardi Gras in 1967. He passed away Sunday, March 25, 2007 in his residence surrounded by his family.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Leora Sonnier of Oberlin; three sons, Kermith Sonnier Sr. of Lake Charles, Phillip Sonnier & wife Cecilia of Oberlin, Frederick Sonnier & wife Jamie of Dry Creek; two daughters, Louise Stelly & husband Michael of Lake Charles, Kathaleen Hooper & husband Gerald of Magnolia, TX; three sisters, Estelle Pellerin of Lake Charles, Yvonne Fuselier of Oberlin, Wanda Walker of Kinder; 10 grandchildren & 6 great grandchildren.
Preceded in death by parents, Oxida & Aby Sonnier; three grandchildren, Christopher Stelly, Kermith Sonnier Jr., little Frederick Sonnier.
