Oberlin-Shirley (Polly) Chaumont, 77, entered eternal rest on November 15, 2014, at home surrounded by family and her pastor, Rev. Jacob S. Conner. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, November 17, 2014, at 11 a.m. at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church. Rev. Jacob S. Conner will officiate. Burial will follow in Oberlin Cemetery under the direction of Allen Parish Funeral Home-0berlin Chapel.
The family will receive visitors at Allen Parish Funeral Home, 119 S. 7th Street, on Monday morning from 8 a.m. until time of service. The Holy Rosary will be prayed at 10 a.m.
Polly was a resident of Oberlin for 49 years. She was a member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church. She was retired from Oberlin High School where she served as Secretary for many years. She was an avid sports fan and outdoor enthusiast, participating in gardening and all aspects of home economics. Polly especially loved gatherings with family and friends on holidays and special occasions, and times spent on the Calcasieu River.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 58 years, Jerry L. Chaumont; daughter, Colleen (Daniel) Steege; sons, Jerry (Tara) and Jason Chaumont; sisters, Delane Donahue and Sally (Craig) Ortego; brothers, William and Ned Sheets; six beloved grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and, countless friends.
Polly is preceded in death by her parents, N.B. and Mary Sheets; sister, Margaret Sheets; and brother, Warren Sheets.
