Obituary

Kinder-Funeral service will be held for Rufus "Boosie" Nixon, 85, at 2pm on Thursday, February 14, 2013 in Indian Village Pentecostal Church. Rev. Terry Bushnell and Rev. Carroll Bushnell will co-officiate the service and burial will follow in Green Oak Cemetery under the direction of Ardoin Funeral Home of Kinder.
The family will receive visitors beginning Wednesday, February 13, 2013 from 4-9pm in Indian Village Pentecostal Church. Visitation will continue on Thursday at the church from 9am until time of service.
Boosie served our country in the United States Army as a Merchant Marine. He served in the Korean War and was awarded numerous medals of honor. He was a devoted husband of 59 years as well as a loving father and grandfather. He was a member of Indian Village Pentecostal Church. Boosie worked in the telephone industry and retired with 30 years of service from Bell South. He was a member of the Communication Workers of America and the Telephone Company Pioneers. Breaking and training horses was his passion.
Survivors include his loving wife, Kathryn Langley Nixon of Kinder; three daughters-LaDonna Best of Lake Charles, Teri Jo Bushnell and husband, Ken of Kinder, and Jeanie Sparks and husband, Kevin of Shreveport; four brothers-James Nixon and Roy Nixon, both of Kinder, Hubert Nixon of Baton Rouge and Curt Nixon of Moss Bluff; two sisters-Linda Bushnell and Junelle Bushnell, both of Kinder; three grandchildren-Travis, Devin and Kolton; and three great grandchildren-Makayla, Brayden and Lexi.
Boosie is preceded in death by his parents, Hattie and Rufus Nixon, Sr.; one son, Steven Lee Nixon; one sister, Nelda Doucette; and one son-in-law, Bob Best.
