Roy L. Cain, 81, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and loyal friend, passed away in his home surrounded by loved ones on June 29, 2020 after a hard fought battle with cancer. Roy was born September 26, 1938 in League City, Texas to Guy Loguston Cain and Pearl Sadler. He had many friends who adored him. A close friend recently recalled how "Roy would always go to bat for you and if you knew him you knew he was loyal to his friends." He graduated from Hull-Daisetta High School in Texas with friends he had known since childhood. They all remained close throughout the years-frequently visiting each other and reminiscing the good time over phone calls. Roy was the captain of his high school football team and was named "Mr. HD High". He continued playing football at McNeese State University where he studied for 2 years.
Not long after graduating high school, Roy became a Free Mason. He was a Master Mason for over 50 years. He served his country in the US Army during the Cuban Missile Crisis, and received achievement awards for his service in the 74 th Transportation Company. After being honorably discharged, he worked as a consultant in the oilfield. Through his travels with work, he met his beautiful soon to be bride, Sharon Aucoin, in Amelia, Louisiana in 1966. They fell in love almost immediately. He asked her to marry him not even 1 month after they met. They married May 29, 1967 in Willis, Texas. Their children are Tina Louviere Pierce, Gina Louviere Philburn, and Melissa Cain Vickers. His grandchildren are Bryan Boudreaux, Taylor Pierce, Dylan Philburn, and Mia Vickers. He was a great-grandfather to Brett Boudreaux, Kyleigh Boudreaux, Kensley Boudreaux, Byron Boudreaux, Kane Boudreaux, Kenley Pierce, Kylie Pierce, Kallie Philburn, Bentley Philburn, Khloe Cerda, and Yulissa Gurrero.
He became dear friends with Salvador Gurrero and his family, loving Salvador as his own son. Salvador was one of many dear friends Roy made upon moving to Oakdale, Louisiana. After Roy's retirement, he and Sharon moved to Oakdale, reuniting with their life-long friends Terry and Catherine Seal. They made many more friendships as time went on. There, Roy and Sharon built their dream home of Roy's own design. They lived there for 13 years, and made beautiful memories with family and friends and tending to their beloved pets. Roy rescued almost every pet he and Sharon owned, creating their own little animal sanctuary. Throwaways and the unwanted of all shapes and sizes found refuge with Roy and Sharon. Another of Roy's hobbies was whittling. His favorite and most popular creation was his monkeys that he carved from peach pits using only a pocketknife. He was always cracking jokes-he loved to make you laugh. He kept a positive outlook throughout his battle with cancer, calling every obstacle just another "bump in the road".
He is preceded in death by his parents along with his brothers, Guy "Buddy" Cain, Jr., Robert Lee Cain, Billy Joe Cain, and his sister, Louella Miller Cain. His family and friends who survived him will honor his memory and continue telling his stories-and in that way Roy lives on with us.
