Anne passed away peacefully at her home in Dripping Springs, Texas, surrounded by her loving children Natalie, Blake, and their families. She was a devoted wife to her husband Herbert Allen Shirley for 55 years until his passing in October of 2024. Anne was a faithful member of St. Paul's Catholic Church in Elton where she attended church regularly. She was a dedicated educator, having retired from the Louisiana public school system after 34 years of teaching elementary school. Upon retirement, she continued her passion at the Little Indian School in Elton, Louisiana. Anne was extremely patriotic in her love of country, devoted in memory of her late father, who died in the Battle of Normandy in World War II in Saint Lo, France, before ever meeting his daughter. She grew up in White Castle, Louisiana, with her mother Theresa, and her Uncle Allen "Pete" Savoy, who helped raise Anne. She graduated from Ascension Catholic High School in Donaldsonville, LA in 1963 and then attended Nicholls State University in Thibodeaux, LA, where she graduated with a degree in Early Childhood Education in 1967. Anne taught in Golden Meadow, LA for 1 year before meeting and, on December 28, 1968, marrying Herbert Shirley, who was the source of her love and devotion. They moved to Elton, LA, where Anne worked at Elton Elementary School for 33 years as a first-grade teacher. Anne enjoyed spending time with her husband, children, grandchildren, and friends. She enjoyed reading, writing poetry, caring for animals, especially cats, and LSU baseball. Anne will be forever missed and unconditionally loved by all who knew her.
Those left to cherish Anne's memory include her two loving children, Natalie Fuselier and husband Mark and Blake Shirley and wife Brittney; her five grandchildren Cassedy, Jacob, and Kylie Fuselier, and Elizabeth and Jackson Shirley; and a host of extended family members and friends.
Anne is preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Herbert Allen Shirley; and her parents, Clifton and Theresa Savoy.
