Obituary

Ronald Roy Kennedy, known as "Ronnie", "Pop", or "Paw-Paw", left this earth for his eternal reward on Saturday, January 6, 2018 with his beloved wife, Sandy, by his side. Ronnie and Sandy owned Kennedy Care Corner in Elton.

Born a twin on October 28, 1936, he lived in Elton all of his life with the exception of the time spent serving his country in the United States Army.  He was a rice farmer early on and later worked for Empire Gas, Mosquito Control, and Culligan. He was a security guard at the plants for many years.  He was a Reserve Auxiliary Officer with Jeff Davis Parish Sheriff's Office and Elton Auxiliary Fire Department.  Whether he was the first person on the scene directing traffic for an accident or for a funeral, Ronnie could be counted on for performing little community services in his attempt to help others.

Ronnie loved family!  He enjoyed raising Boston Terriers, fostering, and being with children.  He loved his tractor and cutting grass for the Elton United Pentecostal Church.  At the time of his death, he was a member of the Church Point Pentecostals in Church Point, LA.

Ronnie thrived on bringing joy to others.  His distinguished role as Santa began upon his return from the military and ran for 61 years, including December, 2017.  He could be found donning a red suit and cap in order to bring joy and laughter to children and adults alike.  Ronnie's wisecracks and kindness will be missed by his wife, family, and the whole Elton community.

Ronnie leaves behind his wife of 51 years, Sandra Bryce Kennedy "Sandy"; his daughter, DaRonda Robinson and son-in-law, Joe, and his daughter, Deborah "Debbie" Royer and son-in-law, Blaine; and four grandchildren-Chanyon Robinson and wife, Tara, Brooke Robinson, Kyler Royer and Kelsey Royer.  He also leaves a host of little ones who call him Paw-Paw.

Ronnie is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Edith Jenkins Kennedy; his brother, Kenneth Kennedy and his twin brother, Donald Kennedy.

Ronnie will be laid to rest under the direction of Ardoin Funeral Home of Elton. Public viewing will begin on Tuesday, January 9, 2017 from 3 to 9 pm and resume on Wednesday January 10, 2017, at 8 am until the time of the service. A Home-going Service will be held at the First Baptist Church in Elton at 10 am followed by burial at China Cemetery on Wednesday, January 10, 2017. Reverend Rick Pavlu will officiate the service.

Pallbearers will include Joe Robinson, Blaine Royer, Kyler Royer, Justin Bryce, Tony Babineaux, and Charles Bruchhaus. Honorary pallbearers are Chanyon Robinson and Doug Firestone.
