Obituary

Oberlin-Celebration of Life services honoring Rodney "Pop" Roy, 80, will be held at 2 o'clock p.m. on Friday afternoon, November 28, 2025, at Ardoin/Allen Parish Funeral Home of Oberlin. Rev. Don Duplechain will officiate. "Pop" will be laid to rest at Duplechain Cemetery in Oberlin immediately following his services.

"Pop's" family will receive friends and visitors at Ardoin/Allen Parish Funeral Home of Oberlin on Friday morning, November 28, 2025, from 9 o'clock a.m. until time of service. All of "Pop's" arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Ardoin/Allen Parish Funeral Home of Oberlin.

"Pop" was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather,
brother, uncle, and friend. He was a faithful husband to his wife Shirleen for 56 years. "Pop" had a profound love for the outdoors where he enjoyed hunting and fishing but especially gardening. He enjoyed the casino and playing boo ray and other card games with his family and friends. "Pop" also enjoyed dancing and music and would often attend dances at all the old southern dance halls. He loved Southern Les Smiles dancing, attending Green Lantern, Green Wing, Fred's Lounge, and Dianne's Brass Rail were just a few of the old dance halls he frequented. "Pop" also celebrated many birthdays at Pop-A-Top's. He enjoyed family and friends and making memories with them while always cooking good meals. "Pop" was an avid sports fan and loved his LSU Tigers and New Orleans Saints. He also loved his skoal. He will be forever missed and unconditionally loved by all who knew him.

Those left to cherish "Pop's" memory include his wife Shirleen Ann Duplechain Roy; one son, Ross Martin Roy, one daughter, Rebecca Ann Roy Wiltz; three brothers, Charles, Armand Jr., and Rickey Roy, one sister, Velma Roy Breaux; three grandchildren, Megan Chartier, Mathew and Morgan McClellan; two great grandchildren, Cleo and Elle-Mae McClellan; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

"Pop" is preceded in death by his parents, Armand Sr. and Virgie Labbie Roy.
