Oberlin-Funeral service for Rodney Lee Fontenot, 87, will be held at 12 p.m., Saturday, September 2, 2017, at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church. Rev. Jacob Conner will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery in Soileau under the direction of Ardoin/Allen Parish Funeral Home of Oberlin.
The family will receive visitors at Ardoin/Allen Parish Funeral Home of Oberlin from 5-9 p.m. on Friday, September 1, 2017, with the Holy Rosary at 7 p.m. Visitation will resume at 8 a.m. Saturday morning in the funeral home.
Rodney was a loving father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was a devoted husband to his wife, Pereda, until her passing in 2015. He enjoyed working his cattle and spending time with his family. Rodney will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Those left to cherish Rodney's memory include his son, Kurt Fontenot and wife, Catherine, of Oberlin; two daughters, Julie Vellion and husband, Gary, of Natchitoches, and Chiara Elliott and husband, Karl, of Pine Prairie; his brother, Donald Fontenot and wife, Genny, of Oberlin; four grandchildren, Tracy Richard and husband, Aaron, of Fairview, Kelly Manuel of Oberlin, Jade Welch and husband, Nick, of Oberlin, and Lee Fontenot of Pineville; and nine great grandchildren.
Rodney is preceded in death by his parents Eddie and Margaret Fontenot; his spouse, Pereda J. Fontenot; one son, Gregory Keith Fontenot, one brother, Eldon Fontenot; and three grandchildren, Erin, Clair, and Lane Fontenot.
