Kinder- Funeral service for Dr. Robert M. Wilhelmi will be Friday, June 27, 2008 at 10AM in St. Philip Neri Catholic church. Father Carlos Garcia will officiate. Burial will be in Carter Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Ardoin Funeral Home of Kinder.
Visitation will begin on Thursday in Ardoin Funeral Home of Kinder from4 PM to 9 PM, with a rosary being recited at 6 PM, and will continue on Friday from 8 AM till time of service.
Dr. Wilhelmi was born in Chicago, Illinois and lived his early years in Joliet, Illinois. He was the son of Dr. Lawrence J. and Anna Steele Wilhelmi. He attended Joliet Junior College, University of Minnesota, Tulane University, and graduated from Loyola University of the South. He served as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy, was a dentist on the aircraft carrier "Philipean Sea" and was also on the Admiral Byrd Expedition to Antarctica. He practiced dentistry in Kinder for 40 years. Dr. Wilhelmi was a member of the St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, and the Kinder Rotary Club since 1949. In Rotary he served as President in 1951-1952 and was a recipient of the Paul Harris Fellow award. In 2002 Dr. Wilhelmi received the award for 52 years of exceptional dedication to the Ideals of Rotary. He was an active member of the Rotary Club until 2007.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Unkel Wilhelmi, a son, Don Charles Wilhelmi and wife Susan Klein of Kinder; one daughter, Marcia Wilhelmi Moffatt and husband Robert of Shreveport; six grandchildren: Jeremy Wilhelmi, Brooke Wilhelmi Kanigowski, Don Marshall Wilhelmi, Laura Beth Wilhelmi, Lacey Vivienne Moffatt, and Robert J.
Moffatt, III; and four great grandsons: Klein, Jack, Meyer, and Carter.
Pallbearers will be Jeremy Wilhelmi, Don Marshall Wilhelmi, Robert James Moffatt, III, Hine Unkel, Pete Unkel, and Alex Marcantel. Honorary pallbearers are Clarence Leday, James Henry, Hoppy Prudhomme, John Sneve, Kent Andrews, Kurt Unkel, David Unkel, and Eric Unkel. Words of comfort may be left for the family at
