February 22, 1932 – January 2, 2019
Oberlin-Funeral Services for Robert "Bob" Vest, 86, will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, January 4, 2019 at Oberlin Baptist Church. Rev. Cliff Spikes will officiate. Burial will follow in Durio Cemetery under the direction of Ardoin/Allen Parish Funeral Home of Oberlin.
The family will receive visitors on Thursday, January 3, 2019 from 5-9 p.m. at Oberlin Baptist Church. Visitation will resume at the church on Friday morning from 8 a.m. until time of service.
Robert was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, and friend. He was a man of strong faith and a lifelong member of Oberlin Baptist Church. He served our country in the United States Army for two years. He enjoyed flying airplanes and instructing piloting classes, water skiing, traveling, and working on lawn mowers. He served as the sheriff's deputy for Allen Parish sheriff's office. He then served as Assistant Chief of police in Oberlin for four years and then became Chief of police where he served for more than six years. Bob dearly loved his family and his grandchildren. He was a devoted husband to his wife, Betty, for 62 years. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Those left to cherish Bob's memory include his wife, Betty Vest of Oberlin; one daughter, Jody Smith and husband, Charles Rickey Sr., of Lake Charles; one brother, Larry Vest and wife, Jean, of Traer, Iowa; three grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Bob is preceded in death by his parents, Wilbur and Leona Vest; and one brother, Bill Vest.
