Elton-A Mass of Christian Burial for Rinus J. Bushnell, 88, will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, August 15, 2020 at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Rev. Jose Vattakunnel will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery under the direction of Ardoin/Allen Parish Funeral Homes.
The family will receive visitors on Saturday, August 15, 2020 at St. Joseph Catholic Church from 8 a.m. until time of service.
Rinus was born in Oberlin, Louisiana on November 15, 1931 to Linton and Elizabeth Bushnell. Later, he moved to Elton where he married his wife, Evelyn Popillion, and raised his family. Rinus and Evelyn were married for 67 years. He worked at PPG Chemical plant for 40 years until his well-deserved retirement. He was active in his church and was a member of the Knights of Peter Claver. He cooked barbecue for the bazaars every year. Rinus was a family man who enjoyed doing activities with his wife and children, especially taking them each year on Good Friday to the dam for a fish fry. Rinus was a God-fearing, caring man. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Rinus leaves to mourn his wife, Evelyn Bushnell of Elton; three daughters, Barbara Bushnell-Southall, Jerry Bushnell of Houston, TX and Katina Bushnell- Prudhomme of Kinder, LA; one daughter-in-law, Sonya Gray-Bushnell of Houston, TX; two sons-in-law, Allen Prudhomme of Kinder and Danny Ray Southall of Houston, TX; nine grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
Rinus is preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Leroy Bushnell; one sister, Rose Bonaby; one daughter, Vivian Williams; and his only son, Ronnie Bushnell.
