Kinder-Private funeral services for Ridley Anthony Broussard, 89, will be held at Ardoin/Allen Parish Funeral Home of Kinder. Deacon Roy Nash will officiate. Burial will follow at Carter Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Ardoin/Allen Parish Funeral Homes. ***Due to covid and the family's concern for the well-being of their friends and family, the service and visitation will be private with a memorial to follow in the future. ***
Mr. Ridley Broussard died Monday, April 5, at the age of 89. Born and raised in New Iberia, Louisiana, he was a graduate of New Iberia High School. He worked for Gulf Coastline Construction Company from 1950 to 1952. He was inducted into the Army in 1952 and served as instructor in the U.S. Army Signal Corps in Fort Gordon, Georgia, until 1954. He married Sybil, his wife of 67 years, and they moved to New Iberia, where Ridley again worked for Gulf Coastline Construction Company until 1959. He then moved his family to Kinder and began working for Southwestern States Telephone Company. Mr. Broussard worked in the telephone industry 47 years, retiring from Centurytel Telephone Company, in 1997 after 37 years of service with them. His positions with Centurytel included Construction Foreman, Exchange Repairman, and Construction Supervisor.
Mr. Broussard was a member of St. Philip Neri Catholic Church in Kinder. He was also a member of the H.W. Leger Memorial Council of the Knights of Columbus and the Monsignor Cramers Assembly of the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus.
An avid square dancer for many years, he was a member of the Square Shooters Dance Club in Jennings, the Western Squares Club in Baton Rouge, the Triangle Camping Squares in East Texas, and the "B" Sharp Advanced Square Dance Club in Beaumont, Texas. He participated in the 1990 National Square Dance Convention in Stockholm, Sweden. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Those left to cherish Ridley's memory include his wife, Sybil; one daughter, Kay Broussard Sonnier and husband, Gary, of Westlake; one son, Warren Mark Broussard of Westlake; six grandchildren, Brittany Acheson of Lake Charles, Scott Meche and his wife, Sarah, of Westlake, Jason Sonnier and Joey Sonnier, both of Lake Charles, Sam Sonnier of Hendersonville, NC and Christa Sonnier of Pensacola, FL; four great grandchildren, Olivia Acheson, Landry Meche, Cameron Meche, and Eve Parent; and several nieces and nephews.
Ridley is preceded in death by his parents, Ebrard Isaac and Regina Bellot Broussard; and one sister, Mary Helen Sonnier.
