Oberlin-Celebration of Life services honoring Ricky Dan Mahaffey, 70, will be held at 1 o'clock p.m. on Friday, April 5, 2024, at Cherry Grove Baptist Church in Mittie. Rev. Bill Earl will officiate. Ricky will be laid to rest at Cherry Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Mittie immediately following his services.

Ricky's family will receive friends and visitors at Cherry Grove Baptist Church in Mittie on Friday, April 5, 2024, from 9 o'clock a.m. until time of service. All of Ricky's arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Ardoin/Allen Parish Funeral Home of Oberlin.

Ricky was a lifelong resident of Oberlin and a graduate of Oberlin High School as a part of the Class of 1971. In his Junior and Senior years, Ricky was selected to attend college classes while still attending high school. He attended McNeese State University where attained a bachelor's degree in horticulture and a master's degree in microbiology. He was the Parish Manager of the State of Louisiana Environmental Services for Allen and Calcasieu parishes for several years. He then became the Regional 5 Director of Environmental Services with the State of Louisiana until his much-deserving retirement.

Ricky was a caring and devoted husband to his wife, Rhonda, for over 33 years. Rhonda said, "those 33 years and 11 months were like heaven on earth." They were proud parents of their two children, Rhen and Ry, who stated Ricky was a loving, caring, and motivating dad who stressed to them daily the importance of education, determination, and hard work. Ricky enjoyed going to Mittie and spending time in nature. He loved duck hunting, fishing, and setting lines with his wife, son, and friends. He truly enjoyed watching his dogs hunt, Ricky will be forever missed and unconditionally loved by all who knew him.

Those left to cherish Ricky's memory include his loving wife, Rhonda Hebert Mahaffey; his daughter, Rhen Mahaffey; and his son Ry Mahaffey.

Ricky is preceded in death by his parents, Alee and Eula Mahaffey; and his two best friends, Harry Dean Ardoin and Wallace Fruge.
