Obituary

Kinder-It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that the family of Richard Elmo Williams, 74, announce his passing on June 23, 2015. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, June 26, 2015 in the Benny Earl Pelican Memorial Chapel of Ardoin Funeral Home of Kinder. Rev. Beau Guidry will officiate. Burial will follow in Carter Cemetery under the direction of Ardoin Funeral Home.
The family will receive visitors at Ardoin Funeral Home of Kinder from 4-9 p.m. on Thursday June 25, 2015. Visitation will continue on Friday morning from 8 a.m. until time of service.
Richard was born in Morgan City and moved to Kinder in 1955 where he raised his family together with his wife, Carmen. Richard was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He loved boxing in his younger years and was an All-State Boxing Champion. He was awarded a four year athletic scholarship to McNeese State University but chose to enlist in the United States Navy instead. While serving our country, he was awarded the 1962-63 All-Navy Boxing Championship. Richard also worked in the oil and gas industry with Hunt Petroleum for 21 years before retiring. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Those left to cherish Richard's memory include his devoted wife of 48 years- Carmen Adams Williams of Kinder; three daughters-Tracey W. Norton and husband, Lawrence III, of New Orleans, Christa W. Mills and husband, Donald, of Baton Rouge, and Kalley W. Walker and husband, Dustin, of Kinder; one sister, Annette Williams of Colorado; six grandchildren-Alison and Ty Walker and Dalton Wright, all of Kinder, and Samuel, Meghan and Mary Ann Norton of New Orleans; two great grandchildren-William Blake Wright of Kinder and Arya Grace Norton of New Orleans; as well as a host of other family members and friends.
Richard is preceded in death by his parents, Silas and Isabelle Williams; his stepmother, Louise A. Williams; and his sister, Goldie Jean Guidry.
