Richard, affectionately known as "Ham", was born on February 16, 1967. He grew up in Lake Charles. He graduated from Barbe High School and served our country in the United States Marine Corp. He also attended McNeese State University. Ham was a loving and caring father, brother, and uncle. He was a dedicated employee of the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff Office for many years until he became ill. While at the sheriff's office, Ham was responsible for the implementation of the SWAT team. He was also an accredited Chemical Agent Instructor and represented the department in carrying the Special Olympics torch. Ham loved to hunt and enjoyed spending time with his family. He was a "strong-willed fighter" throughout his illness. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Those left to cherish his memory include his son, John Alexander "Alex" Reid of Lake Charles; his daughter, Katelyn Montez Reid of Lake Charles and her fiancé, Michael Fontenot, of Kinder; his surrogate parents, James and Melody Dunn, of Kinder; three brothers, Henry A. "Buck" Reid, III, and wife, Carol, of Divide, CO, David Edward Reid of Lafayette, and Michael Alexander Reid of Lake Charles; sister-in-law, Mary Reid, of Lake Charles; two nieces-Beth and Kathy; and three nephews, Trinity, Bryce and Randy.
Ham is preceded in death by his father, Sheriff Ham Reid; his mother, Patricia Melton Reid; and his brother, Randy Reid.
