Christian, husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle and friend were among many of the names he was proud to be called. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War and the Vietnam Conflict. He retired from Arizona Chemical Plant in (International Paper) in Oakdale, Louisiana. Being from Alabama, you had one of two choices cheer for Auburn or for his favorite team, The University of Alabama Football. If you cheered for Auburn, you were definitely going to get a hard time from him. Corkey, humorous, and full of jokes might be a couple of the many wonderful words you would use to describe him. Loving, tough, and tenacious may I add as well but that's only a few because if you knew him you know there are many more. He always wanted to make you smile no matter who you were. Positive and hopeful, always looking toward the future but never failing to enjoy the present. Family he loved and spoke of often but always longing to see the ones whom moved on before us. Raymond will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Those left to cherish Raymond's memory include his four daughters, Brenda Lee Funderburk and husband, Charles, Rebecca H. Brown and husband, Christopher and Collean H. Darbonne and husband, Steven; Kathy Hayes; one brother, Lonzo Hayes and wife, Alma; one sister-in-law that was like a sister, Brenda Vercher; sixteen grandchildren; twenty-five great grandchildren; and six great-great grandchildren.
Raymond is preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Roberta Hayes; wife, Doretha Paul Hayes; one son, Raymond Jefferson Hayes; and two brothers, Huey and Otis Hayes.
