Funeral service will be held for Oris Joseph Guidry, age 76, at St. Paul Catholic Church of Elton on Monday, June 27, 2011 at 2pm. Fr. Marshall Boulet will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Paul Cemetery under the direction of Ardoin Funeral Home of Elton.
Visitation will be held beginning on Sunday, June 26, 2011 from 4-9pm in Ardoin Funeral Home of Elton. A rosary will be recited at 7pm on Sunday. Visitation will continue on Monday, June 27, 2011 from 8am until time of service.
Oris was born in Oberlin to the late Maurice and Hammie Guidry. He was a graduate of Oberlin High School. He earned a degree in education from the University of Lafayette. Oris loved Basketball, and coached the game for 30 years. He spent most of those years coaching at Elton High where he retired. He loved his players as they were his own.
Oris was a devoted husband and father. The life he shared with his wife and best friend, Bonnie, was a true witness to his
faith in God and love of family. He served as a Eucharistic minister for many years. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Mr. Guidry is survived by his wife of 53 years, Bonnie Guidry of Elton, four children; Terrell Langley and husband Kirk of Rockwall, TX, Tommy Guidry and wife Kim of Elton, Becky Zaunbrecher and husband Bradley of Egan, and Ted Guidry and wife Joy of Ragley; 10 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren; and his
siblings, Earlene Minnis of New Orleans, Barbara Hill of Oberlin, Louise Darbonne of Oberlin, Lary Guidry of Eunice, Dennis Guidry of Durhal, Richard Guidry of Oberlin and Gary Guidry of Soileau.
