Oakdale-Celebration of Life services honoring Nonnie Lee Vickers Manuel, 96, will be held at 10 o’clock a.m. on Saturday Morning September 26, 2026, at Mt. Hope Baptist Church. Revs. Brian Johnson and Brian Manuel will officiate. Nonnie will be laid to rest at Bond Cemetery in Oakdale, LA immediately following her services.

    Nonnie’s family will receive friends and visitors at Mt. Hope Baptist Church on Friday evening, September 25, 2026, from 5 -9 o’clock p.m. Nonnie’s visitation will resume at Mt. Hope Baptist Church on Saturday morning, September 26, 2026, from 8 o’clock a.m. until time of service. All of Nonnie’s arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Ardoin/Allen Parish Funeral Home of Oakdale.

    Nonnie Lee Vickers Manuel was the fifth child of Alice Eola McFatter Vickers and Robert Adam Vickers, Nonnie was born in rural east Texas on New Year’s Day 1930. She left this life 96 years later in her home in Oakdale, La., surrounded by the devoted family she built with her husband, Everton Manuel.

    Growing up during the Depression, she was no stranger to scarcity and hard work and she met life’s challenges with determination and a sense of humor. She loved children, bright colors and travel. Her three great-great granddaughters held a special place in her heart and she traveled widely across the country, from the Southwest to the Canadian border.

    Nonnie rarely saw a flower she didn’t love – as evidenced by her habit of relocating those plants she found on her travels from their native soils back to her own front yard, leaving behind a living map of her adventures for future generations to enjoy. She gave the best head and back scratches, made friends everywhere she went and was rarely angry. The care and acceptance she gave to others was a blessing and her abiding faith, even in her most difficult moments, that God would take care of her was an example for all that knew her.

    Nonnie is survived by her sisters Marty and Sue, her brother Nay and her sons, Lee (Betty) and George (Sharon); grandchildren Suzan, Brian (Kim), Adam, Josh (Jenniffer), Jodi (Justin) and Grant (Jessica); great-grandchildren Kadyn, Hannah, Jasmin, Sabin, Aslynn, Cash, Paisley and Remington and great-great-grandchildren Lilli, Teagan and Karagan.

    Nonnie is preceded in death by her husband and one great grandson, Derek DeJesus, her parents, brothers Houston, Henry, H.P., Mason and Rudolph and sisters Robbie, Lois, Doris, and Bonnie.

    Pallbearers are Adam Manuel, Josh Manuel, Kadyn Manuel, Hannah Manuel, Travis Pitre and Sabin Byrnes.
