Oakdale- Funeral Service for Michael R. Cottongin, 72, will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 28, 2018 at Ardoin/Allen Parish Funeral Home of Oakdale. Rev. Michael McIntosh and Rev. Jerry Johnson will officiate. Burial will follow at Green Oak Cemetery under the direction of Ardoin/Allen Parish Funeral Homes.

The family will receive visitors at Ardoin/Allen Parish Funeral Home of Oakdale from 5-8 p.m. on Tuesday, November 27, 2018. Visitation will resume at the funeral home on Wednesday from 8 a.m. until time of service.

Michael was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother. He loved working on the farm with his animals; especially his horse Mac. He was always full of energy and would help anyone in need. Michael loved to make and build things using cedar. He could take trash and make it into something beautiful. He was a master craftsman. Michael felt like his calling was to help others. Bro. McIntosh said "He spent all day with Michael one day and that it was his day". He stayed with him until he was saved that day and Michael never questioned his salvation again.

Those left to cherish Michael's memory include his wife, Adena Jones Cottongin; one son, Richard Cottongin; three step-sons, Jonathan Jones and wife, Maria, Benjamin Jones, and Christopher Jones and wife, Alisa; three daughters, Kimberly Cottongin, Valarie Deshotel, and Kelly Lucera; one brother, Charlie Cottongin; three sisters, Sally Laird, Mary Young and husband, Lonnie, and Nelda Cottongin; ten grandchildren, Elizabeth, Brandon Lucera, Patrick Lucera, Chole Deshotel, Carly Deshotel, Cortnee Deshotel, Samuel Norwood, Triston Norwood, Alex Norwood, and Tori Jane; and one grandchild on the way.

Michael is preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Ruby Cottongin; two brothers, Kenneth and Cecil Cottongin; one sister, Virgina Popillion; and one nephew, Craig Cottongin.

In lieu of flowers the family has requested that donations may be made to the funeral home in Michael's memory.

Pallbearers honored to serve are: Ben, Chris, and Justin Maricle, Sam Norwood, Joseph Lucero, and Dale Cottongin.

Honorary pallbearers are: Brandon Lucero and John Willis.
