Obituary

Elton- It is with great sadness that the family of Rev. M.G. Davis, announce his passing at the age of 82. He was born January 4, 1940, to Andrew P. Davis and Barbara Lawrence Roy Quibodeaux. He was a loving husband of 62 years to his wife, Patricia Lavergne Davis. M.G. was also a loving father, grandfather and great grandfather, as well as pastor of Elton United Pentecostal Church for 44 years.

At the age of 17, M.G. joined the US Navy and served his country in the Vietnam War as a radioman on the battleship USS Coral Sea. He married Patricia Ann Lavergne on August 13, 1960. He finished out his career with the Navy as a recruiter in Lafayette, La. After the Navy, he went on to Texas Bible College to pursue a degree in Theology. After Bible College, M.G. went on to pastor in Krotz Springs, Holden and in an assistant capacity in Denham Springs. While in Denham Springs, he also worked as a welder. In 1978 he accepted the pastoral position for Elton UPC, where he remained until his passing. During his time in Elton, he and his wife made several trips to Greece and the Philippines. Here, he taught many seminars at the Bible colleges and preached in several cities in each country. As Pastor in Elton, M.G. trained many who went on to become successful preachers, teachers and pastors. From this work also sprang a daughter work in Houston, TX among the gypsy nation, which has spread to other states. Rev. Davis had many trades and hobbies. He was an avid gun collector and trader. He was the owner of Po Man's Gun Shop in Elton for many years, where he shared his love for guns and outdoor sporting. Many prayers and cups of coffee were enjoyed in that shop among saints and friends. He loved being outdoors, camping, fishing and hunting. He was an excellent cook and barbequer. All of this was always second to his first love and passion; winning souls to Jesus Christ. His love of people and his compassion was second to none. He was also known to be a jokester and loved to enjoy a good laugh. He will be greatly missed by all who loved him and were blessed to call him friend.

Rev. MG. Davis is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Patricia Lavergne Davis; four sons, Butch Davis and wife, Melissa, of Kinder, Rev.
