Kinder-Funeral service for Merthale Lormand Nixon, age 82, will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 30, 2016, at Indian Village United Pentecostal Church. Rev. Terry Bushnell, Rev Carroll Bushnell, and Rev. David Murphy will officiate. Burial will follow in the family cemetery in Indian Village under the direction of Ardoin Funeral Home.
The family will receive visitors at Indian Village United Pentecostal Church, 488 Hwy 383 Kinder, La 70648, from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, November 29, 2016. Visitation will resume on Wednesday morning from 8 a.m. until time of service.
Merthale was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She loved to work in her yard. Merthale was a woman of strong faith. She enjoyed spending time with her family. Merthale taught Sunday school in the toddler class at First Pentecostal Church in Baton Rouge for many years. She was a devoted wife to her husband Jack for 64 years. Merthale loved to crochet and sew. She was a great seamstress. Merthale especially enjoyed crocheting blankets for all of her grandchildren and most of her great grandchildren. She was a great cook. Merthale will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Those left to cherish Merthale's memory include her husband, James "Jack" Nixon, of Kinder; four daughters, Janna Nixon Haas and husband, George, of Covington, LA, Dana Nixon Rogers and husband, Wayne, of Orange, TX, Karen Sue Nixon Murphy and husband, Rev. David Murphy, of Vienna, OH, Jami Nixon Robertson and husband, William, of Grand Prairie, TX; one brother, Bobby Lormand and wife, Karen, of Mountain Home, ID ; one sister, Berthale Watson of Iowa, LA; eleven grandchildren, and fourteen great grandchildren.
Merthale is preceded in death by her parents, Samuel and Lovinnia Lormand; one son, Kevin James Nixon; one brother, Felix Lormand; and one sister, Dortheale Breaux.
The family would like to express a special thanks to her caregiver of four years, Mrs. Suila Guill and her hospice nurse, Mrs. Penney Ford. Also, a special thanks to Heart of Hospice for all of their loving care and support.
