Oberlin-A Mass of Christian Burial for Merry Jahn Chandler, 81, will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, February 11, 2022 at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church. Rev. Fr. Clyde Thomas will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery under the direction of Ardoin/Allen Parish Funeral Homes.
The family will receive visitors at Ardoin/Allen Parish Funeral Home of Oberlin on Thursday, February 10, 2022 from 4-9 p.m. with the Holy Rosary being prayed at 6 p.m. Visitation will resume on Friday morning from 8 a.m. until time of service.
Merry was a loving sister, aunt and friend to many. She was in the United States Air Force for twenty-six years-this included serving as a flight nurse for six years, staff nurse for two years and was over the nursing administration for thirteen years. Merry had a ranking as Lieutenant colonel for eleven years. She was also a professor of nursing at McNeese State University for fifteen years. She loved to travel the world and enjoyed doing volunteer work with children. Merry will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Those left to cherish Merry's memory include her brother, Craig Chandler and wife, Winnie, of Oberlin; sister, Toby Chandler of Oberlin; ten nieces and nephews, Ginger Wisnoski, Joshua Chandler, Amanda Stevens, Victoria Fontenot, Laurie Lamonco, Matt Chandler, Ben Chandler, Bryan Hanus, Beth Hanus and Melanie Hanus Ferguson; and numerous great nieces and nephews.
Merry is preceded in death by her parents, Bryan and Alice Craig Chandler; and brother, Ted Chandler.
