Oberlin-Funeral Services for Mary A. Peterson, 61, will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 20, 2020 at Oberlin Baptist Church. Rev. Paul Matte will officiate. Burial will follow at Oaklin Springs Cemetery under the direction of Ardoin/Allen Parish Funeral Homes.

The family will receive visitors at Ardoin/Allen Parish Funeral Home of Oberlin on Friday, June 19, 2020 from 3-8 p.m. Visitation will resume on Saturday morning at Oberlin Baptist Church from 9 a.m. until time of service.

Mary was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She was a devoted wife to her husband, George, for forty years. Mary was a member of Oberlin Baptist Church and cherished her relationship with God. She treasured spending time with her family, spoiling her grandchildren and was always there for them when needed. Mary enjoyed reading, playing scrabble and cooking. Her family says she made the best gumbo and baked beans. A kind and giving person is what Mary was known for; however, she could also be blunt and very stubborn. Mary was a hard worker with a wonderful sense of humor. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Those left to cherish Mary's memory include her husband, George M. Peterson of Oberlin; two sons, Derek Matte of Kinder and Merle "Petie" Peterson of Lake Charles; one daughter, Katy J. Matte of Lake Charles; five brothers, Bruce Matte and wife, Kathy, of Marion, LA, Joseph Matte, Jr., and wife, Marie, of Spring, TX, John Matte and wife, Margaret, of Oakdale, Fred Matte and wife, Lisa, of Woodstock, GA and Paul Matte and wife, Tammy, of Laurel, MS; two sisters, Doreen Chapman of Oberlin and Annette Young and husband, Bobby, of Kinder; two grandchildren, Mary Duplechian and Lainey Marie Manuel; one great grandson, Elijah Duplechian; as well as, a host of nieces and nephews.

Mary is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Josephine Matte.
