Oberlin-A Mass of Christian Burial for Mary Ophelia Fontenot, 80, will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, December 3, 2018 at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church. Rev. Jacob Conner will officiate. Burial will follow in Reed Cemetery in Oberlin, under the direction of Ardoin/Allen Parish Funeral Home of Oberlin.

The family will receive visitors Sunday, December 2, 2018 from 2-8 p.m. at Ardoin/Allen Parish Funeral Home of Oberlin. The Holy Rosary will be prayed at 5 p.m. Visitation will resume at the funeral home on Monday morning from 8 a.m. until time of service.

Mary was a very dedicated mother of seven children. She was a devout Catholic and loved her church. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, genealogy, and praying the Holy Rosary. Mary was a devoted wife to her husband, LeRoy Joseph Fontenot, for 55 years until his passing in February 2014. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were her pride and joy. Mary cherished her pets. She lived a very selfless life and always put others first. Mary was a friend to all and never met a stranger. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Those left to cherish Mary's memory include her two sons, Joseph Gerard Fontenot of Oberlin and Royce Marvin Fontenot of Oberlin; five daughters, Mary Theresa Hidalgo and husband, Carlos, of Metairie, Catherine Alicia Fontenot and husband, Kurt, of Oberlin, Tanya Elizabeth France and husband, Damian, of Westlake, Ava Maria Hebert and husband, Chris, of Lafayette, and Christi Angelle Primeaux and husband, Shane, of Lafayette; ten grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

Mary is preceded in death by her parents, Emert and Dolvina Marcantel; one brother, Marvin Marcantel; and three grandchildren, Erin Melissa Fontenot, Clair Magen Fontenot, and Lane Michael Fontenot.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Brighton Bridge Hospice and her sitters for all of their love, compassion, and care.
