Kinder-Funeral service for Mary Lee Johnson Simmons, 90, will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday, October 21, 2018 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Rev. Arnold Wykoff will officiate. Burial will follow in Kinder Cemetery in Kinder under the direction of Ardoin/Allen Parish Funeral Homes.
The family will receive visitors at Ardoin/Allen Parish Funeral Home of Kinder on Saturday, October 20, 2018 from 5-7 p.m. Visitation will be held at Mt. Zion Baptist Church on Sunday from 12:30 p.m. until time of service.
Mary Lee Johnson Simmons was born on August 9, 1928 to Paul and Inez Johnson. She was married to Wilton Simmons Sr. for forty-five years. During the marriage the couple had four children. Mary had a blessed life. She was an active member of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church and Stewart Board for the majority of her membership until her health required her to move to Houston with her daughter. She was employed for many years as a domestic engineer with the "Unkels" as well as a short employment with the Coushatta Casino. Ms. Simmons travelled extensively with her husband, siblings, and children to places including Mexico, Canada, Seattle, Washington, California, Nevada, Mississippi, Georgia, and Kansas. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Those left to cherish Mary's memory include one son, Donald J. Simmons and wife, Mechelle, of Lake Charles; two daughters, Madeline Watson and husband, Rev. Van, of Stockton, California and Erma Parker and husband, Arthur, of Houston, TX; thirty grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; seven great-great grandchildren; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Mary is preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Inez Johnson; one son, Wilton "Bro" Simmons, Jr.; two brothers, Willie Johnson, Sr., and Leroy Johnson; and five sisters, Lorena Martin, Annie Johnson, Ethel Cole, Ida Smith, and Rose Washington.
