Oberlin-Mrs. Mary Pinkie Francis Stephens, a resident of Oberlin, LA since 1950, was born December 11, 1917 in Forest Hill, LA and passed away at 10:10 a.m. Sunday, July 16, 2006 in Covington, LA.
Mrs. Stephens taught first grade in Oberlin for over 20 years and was a devoted member of Oberlin Baptist Church for over 50 years. She was a member of the Women's Missionary Union and served as WMU treasurer. Mrs. Stephens was a former member of the Allen Parish Retired Teachers' Association.
Survivors include her son, Mr. Robert Stephens and daughter-in-law, Patricia (Chachere) Stephens of Forth Worth, TX; daughter, Mrs. Patricia S. Hemenway and son-in-law Charles Hemenway of Folsom, LA; five grandsons, Stephen & wife Leslie Roppolo of Houston, TX, John & wife Rachel Roppolo of Mandeville, Richard Roppolo of Metairie, Robert Stephens of Lamoni, IA, David Stephens & wife Amy of Fort Worth, TX; six great grandchildren, Sophie, Meg, Ellie, Miles, Augie, and Chela Roppolo; two brothers, C.R. & wife Lena Francis of Alexandria, Louis & wife Ruth Francis of Lake Charles; three sisters, Lavert Monroe of Lake Charles, Betty McRight of Forest Hill, Marie Pringle of Little Rock, AR; a host of cousins, nieces and nephews.
She is also survived by brother-in-law, Carroll D. Stephens of Pineville, and sisters-in-law, Una Beth Stephens of Alexandria, and Dorothy Vasser of Louisville, KY.
Preceded in death by husband, Floyd H. Stephens, brother, Jimmie Francis and sister, Dorothy Chelette.

Funeral service for Mrs. Mary Pinkie Francis Stephens, 88, will be held Wednesday, July 19, 2006 at 10 a.m. in New Beginnings Assembly of God Church in Oberlin. Rev. Shane Nugent pastor of Oberlin Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Alexandria Memorial Gardens under the direction of Ardoin Funeral Home of Kinder.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 6p.m.-9p.m. and Wednesday from 8a.m. until time of service in the church.
