Lovenia was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother, sister, aunt and a friend to many. She was a devoted wife to her husband, Morris Cooper, Jr., until his passing in April of 1963. She was a faithful and devout member of the St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in Oberlin. There she attended Mass daily, sang in the choir, taught CCD, was a member of the Ladies Altar Society and a member of the Come Lord Jesus Group where she would lead the praying of the Holy Rosary. Lovenia loved sewing, barbecuing, planting flowers and growing vegetables. Most importantly, she adored spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was very active in her community where she participated in the Church Bazarre, the Black History Celebration where she received the honor of Grand Marshall, as well as events to honor her husband and other veterans who served our country. Lovenia was a very loving person who was exceptional at giving and helping others from all walks of life. She spent her last moments peacefully praying her rosary. Lovenia will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Those left to cherish her memory include her six children, Ann McCleon and husband, Abraham, Mozella Ballard, Richard Cooper and wife, Mary, Ruby Malone, and James Cooper all of Oberlin, and Clara Cooper of Baton Rouge; one sister, Loris Berry and husband, Wilbert Sr., of Oberlin; one brother, McKinley Fontenot of Lake Charles; seventeen grandchildren; twenty-one great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; two Godchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Lovenia is preceded in death by her parents, Mack and Lillian Fontenot; husband, Morris Cooper, Jr.; and one sister, Lorena Fontenot.
