Glenmora-Memorial services honoring Larry Dell Johnson, 81, will be held on Thursday, September 3, 2026, at 11 o'clock a.m. at Humble Baptist Church in Glenmora, LA. Rev. Donald Duplechain will officiate. Larry’s family will host a private inurnment service at a future date.

    Larry's family will receive friends and visitors at Humble Baptist Church in Glenmora on Thursday morning, September 3, 2026, from 9 o'clock a.m. until time of service. All of Larry’s arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Ardoin/Allen Parish Funeral Home of Oakdale.

     Larry was known as many things. Husband, Father, Pawpaw, Brother, Uncle, Nephew, Cousin, Friend, Coach, and Teacher. Those that knew him loved him and they knew he loved them. When students or players would ask him why he picked on them or fussed at them so much, he would tell them "I do it, because I care about you. I pick to have fun, and I fussed because I know you can do better." Larry was born in Alexandria to Robert and Victoria, growing up right here in Plainview. He was drafted into the Army during the Vietnam War, where he drove a personnel carrier and proudly served his country. After returning he went to school to become a teacher and coach. Coaching at many places in his 35-year career, each school held a special place in his heart. His wife Myra, who he would address as "hello love of my life" each morning, taught at these schools with him for over 10 years. After a great career in teaching and coaching, he retired and moved to Ville Platte with the love of his life, and their grandpuppy Buster. Larry loved and cared for his family, always the protector and the guiding light when needed. From making sure his baby sister Jennifer was taken care of after their father passed, making sure Myra had everything she needed, staying up waiting on a phone call from Angie after a game, or calling his daughter Traci to tell her to listen to a song that reminded him of her. Traci showed him a love that only a Daddy's girl could, and he loved every bit of it. He would always talk about how lucky he was that God brought his stepdaughters into his life. You'd see that rare smile on his face when Lori-Beth was in the room, getting up close to her face until she'd grab his nose. And he would talk so proudly about Lana as she grew up, proud of how she carried herself and who she became. His last three years were spent with his son Brad. Brad spent 20 years on the bench with his dad, so those last three years Larry followed his son to beaches of Destin and back home to Louisiana. Always right there waiting for him to get home, so he could hear about day and have a drink together. He loved all the people he met in his long life and was loved by them.

    Those left to cherish Larry's memory include his three sons, Brad, Troy, and Eric Johnson; two daughters, Traci Johnson and Lana Malone; two brothers, Edwin “Butch” Funderburk and Jason Johnson, three sisters, Jennifer Roy, Sharon Condit, and Violet White; seven grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

    Larry is preceded in death by his parents, Robert Johnson and Victoria Funderburk; his wife, Myra Johnson; one daughter, Lori Carrier; one brother, Mervin Johnson; and one sister, Elaine Maze.
