Many lives are lived, but some are lived to the fullest. Kristina Rae Barrett took Jesus seriously as He said in John 10:10 that He came to give incredible life—real life lived to the utmost. She trusted in Him to deliver her from the penalty of sin so she can have everlasting life. She trusted in Him to deliver her from the power of sin so she can have incredible life.
On June 21, 2014, at the age of 12, Kristina trusted in Jesus to deliver her from the presence of sin so she can spend that everlasting life with Him. She passed from this earth while in her home surrounded by her family.
Born on May 30, 2002, Kristina was a spunky and cheerful girl who loved to draw, color, make crafts, dance, sing, and make people happy. One day she prayed that God would show her His amazing power. And that power of our amazing God began to be expressed when she was diagnosed with cancer on August 23, 2010.
Over the next 4 years, Kristina inspired thousands with her faith in her heavenly Father. By His grace she overcame surgeries, chemotherapies, and clinical trials. Even in her last days on earth when she knew her cancer was spreading, her very words were, "If this is God's plan for me, then I accept it."
The angels ushered Kristina into the arms of Jesus on Saturday, June 21, 2014, at 8:47am. Her family was with her. They include her parents, Chad and Melissa Barrett, her siblings, Jonathan, Caroline, and Katherine Barrett. Her grandparents were there: Don and Angela Barrett of Dry Creek, LA, and Ray and Gaynel Shawa of Lake Charles, LA. She is also survived by her aunts and uncles, Jason and Charlene Shawa of Canton, GA, Jeff and Kristi Bellard of Lafayette, LA, Jason and Melanie Bell of Lake Charles, LA, and Michael and Nikki Barrett of Kingwood, TX. Along with those aunts and uncles, she enjoyed the friendship of 5 wonderful cousins.
Memorial services for Kristina are Friday, June 27, 2014, at Kingwood Bible Church in Kingwood, TX at 6:00pm, and on Saturday, June 28, 2014, at Hamilton Christian Academy in Lake Charles, LA at 2:00pm. Kristina will be laid to rest at Dry Creek Cemetery in Dry Creek, LA at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday. Friends and family will begin gathering at 4:00 p.m. until time of graveside service. Arrangements have been entrusted to Ardoin Funeral Home of Kinder.
In honor of Kristina's favorite colors, the family would like to invite guests to wear purple and/or blue to the services.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be given to Child Evangelism Fellowship of Greater Houston (www.CEFHouston.org) and/or Camp Pearl (www.CampPearl.com). Words of sympathy may be expressed to the family at www.ardoinfuneralhome.com.
Through her battle Kristina proved the overpowering truth that we all must embrace: Our God is Bigger!
