June's family will receive friends and visitors at Ardoin/Allen Parish Funeral Home of Oakdale on Friday morning, November 1, 2024, from 10 o'clock a.m. until time of service. All of June's arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Ardoin/Allen Parish Funeral Home of Oakdale.

Sixteen-year-old June Johnson met her future husband, Russell Minchew, at Broadway Baptist Church in Galveston, TX in April of 1944, where he was stationed with the Coast Guard. Six weeks later, they began their 59 plus year marriage. June was a devout follower of The Lord Jesus Christ and a Sunday School teacher at First Baptist Church of Oakdale, where she sang in the choir and occasional solos. She had many talents and hobbies, she was a self-taught pianist, seamstress, artist, and published author.  She enjoyed raising chickens, gardening, cooking, baking, and canning. Her chow chow was coveted by all who tasted it.  Yet, her greatest love and achievement was her three children, ten grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren, where she played an active part in so many of their lives. June was a kind and caring person and will be forever missed and unconditionally loved by all who knew her.

Those left to cherish June's memory include her son, Mark Joseph Minchew and wife Kathy, one daughter, Linda Minchew Odom, and husband Rev. Bro. Jerry Odom; ten grandchildren, David and Daniel Minchew, Katherine, Marcus, and Jonathan Minchew, and Jonnie Campbell, Tara Neja, Carey Odom, Dawn Marks, and Chris Robinson, thirteen great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.

June is preceded in death by her parents, Mark, and Ella Mae Johnson; her husband, Marcus Russell Minchew; one son, Raymond Russell Minchew, one daughter, baby girl, Mary Minchew; five brothers, Harvin, Dallas, Arlin, Walter, and Ivan Johnson, and three sisters, Mary May Mitchell, Madelyn Allen, and Lillie Porter.

Condolences and words of comfort may be shared with June's family at www.ardoinfuneralhome.com or on Facebook at Ardoin/Allen Parish Funeral Home.
