Born Julia Mae DeRosier on August 25, 1927, she passed away on April 1, 2013.
There is a rosary Monday, April 1, 2013, at 7 p.m. in St. Paul Catholic Church of Elton and an Altar Society Rosary at 12 p.m. on April 2, immediately before the funeral mass at 1 p.m. Tuesday in St. Paul Catholic Church. Father Marshall Boulet will officiate the service, and burial will follow at St. Paul Cemetery under the direction of Ardoin Funeral Home.
The family will receive visitors at St. Paul Catholic Church of Elton beginning Monday, April 1, from 6 to 9 p.m. Visitation will continue on Tuesday, April 2, from 8 a.m. until the time of service.
Julia was affectionately known as "Granny" for the past 40 years. She spent her life loving and doing for her family of eight children, 21 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren, Her surviving children are Dwight (Julie) of Elton; Roderick (Kaki) of Elton; Byron (Ginger) of Kingwood, TX; David (Lorraine) of Elton; Jacqui Moore (Robert) of Roanoke; Wendell (Julia) of Elton; Scott (Kara) of Pineville; and Philip (Kim) of Elton.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Malcolm Austin Bertrand; her parents, Maude and Dutile DeRosier; a brother, John DeRosier; her in-laws, Ida and Odell Bertrand; and a grandson, Joshua Bertrand.
Granny will be greatly missed, especially in giving any and all of us her blessing: "Bye, Be Good, Be Careful, Say Your Prayers, I Love You."
We all love you, Granny, and will always feel your absence in our lives.
