Kinder-Joycelyn Guillory Cole, 89, passed away October 8, 2016 in Lake Charles. Joyce was born February 8, 1927 in Chatagnier, where she spent her childhood. Joyce was Valedictorian of her high school graduating class and received a scholarship to SLI (University of Louisiana-Lafayette). After World War II ended, she married Walter H. Cole and eventually moved to Kinder. Mrs. Cole was an active member of the community for many years. Her volunteer activities included the Ladies Altar Society of St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion Post #244, Kinder Yellow Jacket Football Booster Club, PTA President, KHS Marching 100 Band booster, KHS Rodeo Team supporter and a Cub Scout Troop Den Mother.
Mrs. Cole was employed locally with several agencies including Garan, Inc., Allen Action Agency Council on Aging, and a teacher with the Allen Parish Headstart School for 25 years, and at Coushatta Casino.
Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, Walter H. Cole; her parents, Arnold and Edna Fuselier Guillory; brothers, Charles R. Guillory and Edward Guillory; and a sister, Dorothy G. Duplichain.
Mrs. Cole's children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren include Brad and Sandra Cole of Pipe Creek, TX; Maura Cole of Lake Charles; Catherine Cole of Seattle, WA; Monica (Pie) and James Kirkendall of Lake Charles, Jay Kirkendall, Jenni Kirkendall, Joy and Alan Foolkes of Lake Charles; Veronica Cole and Don Wilkinson of Kinder; Parker and Rita Cole, Trevor Cole and Trystan Davis of Kinder; Rose Woodward of Sulphur; Pearl and Austin Proctor and Belle Proctor of Breaux Bridge; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church at 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 11, 2016. Rev. Keith Pellerin will officiate. Burial will follow at Carter Cemetery under the direction of Ardoin Funeral Home.
The family will receive visitors Monday, October 10, 2016 at Ardoin Funeral Home of Kinder from 4-9 p.m. with a vigil followed by the Holy Rosary at 6 p.m. Visitation will continue on Tuesday morning at the funeral home from 8 a.m. until time of service.
The family would like to express deep appreciation to Mrs. Cole's doctors, nurses, aides and staff of Rosewood Nursing Center and Harbor Hospice for their devoted care and kindness for the past two years.
